Why us?
Why not? Search for us on WHT. Ask Twitter. We come very highly recommended, and we pride ourselves on our extremely capable VPS management platform, effective customer track record, and the fact that we know Xen from the inside-out.

We do not use canned solutions. We built our own solution from the ground up. Development is ongoing to make the service better.

Our platform has capabilities not seen anywhere else, such as full instrumentation of your VPS’s performance data. We have built tools on top of this platform to help us visualize resource usage and keep that resource usage balanced for the best possible performance for you.

On top of this, RapidXen has excellent IRC-based chat community support.

Our Networks

In Chicago, RapidXen uses Steadfast Networks for our bandwidth needs.

Traceroute IP: 67.202.104.180

In Los Angeles, RapidXen will be using OC3 Networks for our bandwidth needs.

Traceroute IP: 66.212.21.2

In Germany, RapidXen uses leased infrastructure from Netdirekt.

Traceroute IP: 78.159.121.207

If you have any questions, or want us to provide a test download, please let us know!

Is __________ allowed?

IRC – shell providers are not allowed on our network. Personal IRC usage is fine, and IRCd is allowed. We request that you notify us if you intend to run IRCd, so that we can adjust our IDS system appropriately. Please note, that we terminate people who consistently attract DDoS attacks.

Proxy services – No.

Gameservers – Yes. Infact, we have a special kernel profile with dynamic ticks disabled if you need that for your gameserver (for example, if you are wanting to run a 1000fps counterstrike server!). Again, please note that we terminate people who consistently attract DDoS attacks.

Adult websites – only with prior permission from us. If we find that you are hosting adult content without permission, we will suspend your service.

If you have any questions, feel free to reply to this thread or try out our live chat system!

Best of the Bit.ly Tools

Power Tools for bit.ly

Quickly becoming my new favorite link shortening service, Bit.ly has a lot to offer, and a wide variety of tools to use with it.  Why is it the best? It offers stats, shortens links and well, I do have to say these tools play a big part too.

Here are a few bit.ly tools I’ve run across:

bit.ly preview – an add-on for Firefox that will give you a thumbnail preview whenever you hover over any bit.ly link.  If you hover over another short URL, http://tinyurl.com/5qhkwo, for example, we show the Page Title and Long URL for these links as well. (two for one deal!)

Twitter Search (for bit.ly links) – Search all the tweets from around the world, to see which have used bit.ly links to get there.

Snip-n-Tag – a Firefox extension that will shorten your URLs and add Google Analytics tracking tags.  Great for measuring traffic from Twitter.

Sidebars and Bookmarklets – The people at bit.ly have also produced two bookmarklets to use.  One will auto-create a bit.ly link out of the page you are looking at and the other will do so, and give you statistics about that link in a sidebar.

Gmail Gadget – Now you can shorten your links, using bit.ly, from within Gmail.

Who’s Using bit.ly Right Now? – A Twitter account where you can check out all the latest links that have been shared via the bit.ly link shortening service.

Have another favorite tool to use with bit.ly? Leave a comment!

Talk to HostGator Live on July 29 at 8 PM CT

Due to the success of the first Open Session we hosted a couple of weeks ago, we’re hosting another one soon. This Open Session will be held on Wednesday, July 29 at 8 PM CT.

Just like last time, this Open Session will be a chance for both potential and existing HostGator customers to come into a live chat with other customers and HostGator employees and get tips, information, and have a chance to ask questions and get answers from the people who make the decisions at HostGator. Participants can either call in or just listen on their computers.

Some of the things we’ll be discussing include:

  • Tips and suggestions on how to get the most out of your HostGator account from senior system administrators
  • Discussion of HostGator’s upcoming Windows Shared Hosting launch, including questions and answers with the person in charge of Windows hosting here at HostGator
  • Questions and answers about anything related to HostGator, ranging from what our servers support to what we eat for lunch in the office
  • Discounts and/or free hosting to some participants who ask great questions.

Like last time, we’re planning on having our Deputy CTO, Chief Marketing Officer, and Customer Service Manager lead this Open Session. These three people are able to answer just about any question you can think of related to HostGator. There will also be senior support people available to answer more general questions and help out as needed.

Logistics:
TalkShoe worked well for us last time and we’ll be using it again for this Open Session. If you live outside of the US central timezone, check out this site for a list of corresponding times around the world. Right before 8 PM CT on Wednesday, head over to this page for instructions on how to join the session (it’s very simple).

Overview:
What: HostGator Open Session
When: Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 8 PM CT
Where: HostGator on TalkShoe

Make Your Pages More Tweet-ccessible

Want to make your web page a little more accessible to Twitter users?  You might look to add the re-tweeter from TweetMeme to your own web site layout.  You (or your fans) can promote your web site using the TweetMeme button.  It is a simple and easy way to integrate Twitter onto your blog and web site.

You have two different badges to choose from:

TweetMeme Buttons

Once you pick the one you like most, you need to figure out how to get it working on your own web site, right?  Check out this article for more help on getting that done:

They also have a WordPress plugin to install, which will automatically put the button on all your pages.  Overall, I would say that this is a very stylish way to get people to re-tweet (aka share) your stories and posts from your web site to their own Twitter followers.  Speaking of Twitter, be sure to follow @lunarpages for tons of web hosting fun.
